L1/ LAYER 1 CHAINS

A research-driven proof-of-stake blockchain emphasizing formal verification, peer-reviewed protocol design, and academic rigor.

A Layer 1 blockchain built by former Meta engineers, using the Move programming language originally developed for the Diem project.

L2/ ETHEREUM SCALING

The largest Ethereum Layer 2 by total value locked, an optimistic rollup that runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine with much lower fees.

Base (no token)

Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 and the largest rollup by value secured. No token of its own: every fee is paid in ETH, and the chain settles to Ethereum.

Kraken's Ethereum Layer 2, an OP Stack rollup in the Superchain built around DeFi. Gas is paid in ETH; the announced INK token had not launched as of September 2026.

An Ethereum Layer 2 using the OP Stack, the open-source rollup framework powering an interoperable "Superchain" of major L2s.

An Ethereum scaling network centered on the Polygon PoS chain, now focused on stablecoin payments, plus the AggLayer for cross-chain settlement. zkEVM was shut down in July 2026.

Robinhood Chain (no token)

Robinhood's Ethereum Layer 2 for tokenized stocks and around-the-clock trading, built on Arbitrum Orbit. Mainnet since July 1, 2026; no token of its own.

DEFI/ PROTOCOL TOKENS

A leading decentralized lending protocol where users deposit collateral to borrow assets, with floating interest rates set by utilization curves.

The dominant decentralized oracle network, providing on-chain price feeds, randomness, and cross-chain messaging to most of DeFi.

The governance token of Sky, the protocol formerly known as MakerDAO, which issues the USDS and DAI stablecoins. SKY replaced MKR at 24,000 SKY per MKR.

The governance token of Uniswap, the largest decentralized exchange on Ethereum and the original AMM that defined DeFi.

STABLECOIN/ DOLLAR-PEGGED

The original decentralized over-collateralized stablecoin, soft-pegged to the US dollar. Its issuer, MakerDAO, is now Sky, and DAI circulates alongside its successor USDS.

A US-dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle, fully backed by short-term Treasuries and cash, favored by institutions and DeFi protocols.

The largest US-dollar-pegged stablecoin by circulating supply, used for trading, settlement, and dollar access in markets without USD banking.

AI/ COMPUTE NETWORKS

A decentralized GPU rendering network where artists pay node operators to render 3D scenes, generative AI, and video production at scale.

A decentralized machine intelligence network where subnets compete to provide AI services like inference, search, and image generation.

PRIVACY/ PRIVACY COINS

The leading privacy-focused cryptocurrency, using ring signatures, stealth addresses, and confidential transactions to obscure sender, recipient, and amount by default.

A proof-of-work cryptocurrency with optional zero-knowledge privacy: coins can move publicly like Bitcoin or inside shielded pools that hide sender, receiver and amount.
